About J.T. Meleck Distillers
J.T. Meleck Distillers wasn’t always in the rice whiskey distillation and vodka production business. The company started as a 20-acre family-owned rice farm way back in 1896 and is named after the original Meleck, John aka “J.T.” or “Uncle John.”
After several generations of rice farming, the Meleck family began innovating, looking for alternative and more profitable uses for the rice crop. It turned out that no one in the U.S. was making spirits out of rice, and that got the Meleck family thinking about a new opportunity.
The family partnered with a local distiller and in 2018, the first J.T. Meleck rice spirit was born – J.T. Meleck vodka. Soon after this invention, rice grain whiskey joined the fold.
Louisiana Rice Vodka
Perfect for martinis, this premium vodka starts out strong early in production, and by the end of the vodka distillation process, it reaches a delightfully sippable 80 poof.

American Rice Whiskey
A relatively new addition to the J.T. Meleck family of spirits, this Louisiana rice whiskey is the epitome of craft rice whiskey. The distillery has a handful of varieties, including its flagship offering, aged in oak barrels for nearly five years.
In addition to the signature J.T. Meleck rice whiskey, some specialty retailers have access to a select range of single barrel whiskeys. Each barrel is sourced separately, making a small batch whiskey production that is only available at a single retailer. Talk about bespoke!

Limited Edition J.T. Meleck Rice Whiskey

- High-proof, small-batch rice whiskey: While the average proof of whiskey ranges between 80 and 90 proof, this rice whiskey tops out at a whopping 118 proof! Despite its strength, there’s a touch of sweetness. Be on the lookout for butterscotch, toffee, and caramel butter as you sip this high-octane whiskey.
- Founder’s edition rice whiskey: Before the launch of the J.T. Meleck rice whiskey in 2022, there was a limited-edition release that happened in 2021. Coming in at 96 proof, this is slightly stronger than average without being too overpowering. There were only 1,000 bottles ever made, so this rice whiskey is a true collectible. If you’re the type of person who can’t decide between chocolate and vanilla, we recommend this one as there are hints of both.
