Every fan of classic cocktails is familiar with the old fashioned. Dating to around 1880, this traditional beverage is crafted with bourbon, sugar, and some Peychaud’s or ANGOSTURA bitters. Although many people mix or order a made-from-scratch old fashioned, Sazerac’s offering allows you to pour this ready-to-drink cocktail straight from the bottle over rocks in a glass.
The Handy & Schiller old fashioned by Sazerac is a barreled pre-mixed cocktail named for its creators, John Schiller and Thomas Handy. These two enterprising bartenders started working together in the popular Sazerac Coffeehouse in New Orleans in the 1860s.
Sazerac’s old fashioned recipe features rye whiskey with vermouth, plus Peychaud’s bitters to bring out the flavors. The entire creation of this barrel-aged cocktail, from production to bottling, takes place at the renowned Buffalo Trace Distillery. Try Al-muvedre Monastrell Red Wine
The Al-muvedre Monastrell wine comes from native Monastrell grapes growing in the Alicante province of Spain, close to the Mediterranean coast. The calcareous soil and the elevation of about 2,000 feet create the perfect conditions for producing classic, flavorful wines.
After the grape harvest, which takes place in late October, each batch of Al-muvedre Monastrell undergoes eight to nine months of fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and concrete tanks. The process creates a deep purplish-red wine with oaky, earthy, fruity undertones.
At 14% alcohol content, Al-muvedre is a bold red that goes wonderfully with a wide array of dishes. Pair it with pasta, hamburgers, grilled meats, or short ribs. Its pronounced aroma, medium body, and well-balanced acidity make it perfect for a high-class dinner or an easygoing barbecue or picnic. To enjoy the wine’s full flavors, decant it for an hour before serving at room temperature.
