Let Bloody Mary help you get into the Halloween spirit

The Bloody Mary may be one of the New Orleans area’s favorite drinks at brunches and during some morning tailgating before a football game, but can there be a more appropriate time to have the dark, red, and spicy mixture than around Halloween?

After all, it is a “Bloody Mary,” right? The name seems to scream spooky!

Adam Acquistapace is a big fan of a great Bloody Mary, and as the wine and spirits (Halloween pun intended) expert at Acquistapace’s Covington Supermarket, who better to ask about some simple tips to prepare the perfect Bloody Mary?

  • Pick the right vodka. “You want something that is light, clean, and easy to drink,” Acquistapace said. “You don’t want anything with any flavoring to it. Tito’s is a hot brand right now. We had a blind taste testing, and Taaka Platinum we liked a whole lot, and it’s very inexpensive. If you want something higher end, you can go Moulin or Grey Goose.”
  • Numbers don’t lie. “Ninety-five percent of all our Bloody Mary mix sales is Zing Zang. You can add stuff to it to make it spicier, but whether you’re adding alcohol to it or not, it’s pretty much ready to go.”
  • Throw in the garden. “There are some really tasty and locally made pickled veggies that add fun AND flavor to your Bloody Mary.”
  • Mind your temperature. “You don’t want to dilute the Bloody Mary and make it watery, so make sure your vodka is cold or frozen. Pour it over ice and enjoy!”
